TAIKOO LI Qiantan, SHANGHAI|THE INDIRECT EXCHANGE OF UNCERTAIN VALUE

2021 Shanghai, China

Conceived to surprise and delight in equal measure, acclaimed British artists Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan have re-united their popular red cat and blue boot motifs in the centre of Taikoo Li Qiantan, Shanghai; their first permanent work in China. The seven-metre-high cat installation, with a large boot on its back acting as a giant planter, strikes a distinctive pose alongside the unique rooftop running track and adjacent to the iconic Japanese TSUTAYA BOOKS store. Here the artwork provides visitors a memorable connection with the cultural, entertainment, wellness and green features the centre has been designed to deliver. Intriguingly Joanne and Tom want us to question why the cat is where it is; while inviting us to establish a humorous relationship with it.
