Reputed to be the sister of West Lake of Hangzhou, Xianghu Lake of Xiaoshan District boasts an equally picturesque scenery that enchants the viewers with its rippling surface.

In the lobby of Hilton Hotel Xiaoshan, Vantaly team created a feature artwork titled Impression, Xianghu Lake resembling the glittering lake surface.

Inspiration

Situated in the west of Hangzhou's Xiaoshan District, the newly built Hilton Hotel Xiaoshan overlooks the exquisite Xianghu Lake.

Drawn inspiration from the rippling surface of Xianghu Lake, Impression, Xianghu Lake, an artwork of two panels consisted of approximately 9000 porcelain ingots, is majestically installed at the hotel reception.

Medium

To capture sunlight dappling on lacustrine surfaces, we selected ceramic as the artistic medium—harnessing its refractive properties to crystallize aqueous luminescence.

Impressed by the jade-like reflective effects of porcelain from Ru Kiln of Song Dynasty, we found that the watery glaze of porcelain made it an ideal medium for this artwork to render the mildly sparkling lake ripples.

Techniques

Porcelain ingots were all handmade by the dedicated artists to endow each piece with **distinct details.

The subtly graded blue hues across the porcelain glaze resemble the vivid colors of Xianghu Lake.

The raised glazed top of each ingot allows the light to be reflected with more brilliance, resulting in the better representation of **the vividly glittering ripples.

Final Presentation

As for the final step of **embedding **the porcelain ingots on the wall, we adopt the mosaic arrangement to weave more sense of modernity into the lobby space.

When countless porcelain ingots are grouped harmoniously following color gradation, a vigorous landscape of Xianghu Lake is unfolded on the reception background.
